Weekend Option: The return of the Must…sort of

It’s been a long time coming.  I recall that fateful Sunday morning after The Must was so rudely and surprisingly shut down.  As word started to trickle across downtown, I came to learn that those boards on the windows and locks on the doors were not remodeling efforts by The Must owners.  Instead, the owners of the property conducted a little late night switcheroo.  New agreements were made that did not involve The Must, and so all of the inventory, equipment, and furniture were moved out in the wee hours of the morning after The Must closed down for the night–which is also sad, because Sunday game night was one of my favorite Sunday evening before having to start a new work week activities.  Bring in the lawyers.

After more than a year of questions–when is The Must coming back?  Where are they going to be located?  The Hellman Building?  The Continental?  But there’s never any movement over there.  Are they really rebuilding?  When can I get that mac&cheese again?–it is finally happening.

After a successful soft-open a few weeks ago, the owners of our once favorite neighborhood bar are ready to officially open their doors to Perch.  Perch is offering a “bastardized” French menu to its guests.  [In an interview, Rachel Thomas referred to the food at The Must as white trash fare done nicely.  Sure, tater tots might fit into that category, but I do take some issue with referring to mac&cheese as white trash food.  Either way, I really enjoyed The Must menu and still reminisce about that mac&cheese with friends sometimes.]

If you are around this weekend, come check out Perch.  Exit the Pershing Square stop on the Redline and you’re there.  The metro ride is $1.50 one way, but the ticket kiosks take both cash and credit.  Beats searching for parking, paying for parking, and…driving in general.  Though, if you are nervous about taking the Metro home at night, you can always cab it back.

Perch is open 4pm to midnight Monday through Wednesday, 4pm to 2am Thursday and Friday, and 6pm to 2am on Saturday.  Sunday Brunch should be coming soon (and the sooner the better in my opinion).

Update: According to Perch on Facebook, they are open seven days a week from 4pm to 2am.
